Overview

The objective of our chess club is to promote junior chess, and create an environment where chess is played in a friendly and supportive environment. Due to the ever-increasing popularity of this great game, we will continue running two Saturday sessions. We look forward to welcoming four high school students who will be assisting the running of the sessions.

What do we do?

With up to 30 players in each session, we will be playing lots of chess. We will run an independent ladder for both sessions with the players challenging one another, and moving up and down the ladder. We will organize club tournaments throughout the year, with the results being ranked with the Canadian Chess and Math Association. Our players will practice chess drills that help develop strategy and end-game maneuvers. We will encourage participation in the local Chess Tournaments which are typically held on Sundays. Most importantly we will all be having fun playing chess!

CMA Instruction

We will continue this year with formal instruction provided through the Canadian Chess and Math Association. This 8-session program will be taught by one of Canada’s top instructors. We will hold 4 “double sessions”, with instruction in the first and second hours.
